At FLOWERS FOR CAP, our goal is to get stress and anger management coping skills taught in schools starting at an early age and continuing through high school. There is so much pressure on children to make the right grades, to get into the best schools, to get the best job, to buy the trophy house, to fit into the best social groups. Not to mention all the stress of what is going on in the whole world today around us. That is a lot of pressure and stress even as adults, so imagine how scared, stressed and anxious children must feel. There are coping skills that can be used to help manage the stress and anger instead of turning to alcohol, drugs and violence.
Child abuse is often a vicious cycle. It is often due to unhealthy ways of dealing with stress and anger, such as alcohol, drugs or violence. Often parents or caregivers are unable to control their own stress and anger, and therefore take it out on helpless children, who have absolutely no control over the situation. The child learns this abusive behavior and repeats this behavior when they grow up and become a parent, to release their stress and anger. So the cycle is a repeated pattern passed down from generation to generation unless something is done to stop the cycle. That is why we are trying to get stress and anger management coping skills taught in schools, to help stop the cycle.
our goal is to help give a voice to children who are too afraid to speak and who cannot protect themselves. To help prevent even one child from being abused.
